Use this checklist before launch, before a schema change, and before a major traffic increase. A postback setup is not ready when it merely โ€œfires.โ€ It is ready when IDs are stable, retries are safe, dedupe is deterministic, and rejection reasons are visible.

If two or more checklist sections fail, stop the rollout and fix the contract before you scale.

How it works

Step 1: Validate required fields

Confirm the live or staging payload always includes:

  • click_id
  • transaction_id
  • event status
  • offer or campaign reference
  • required sub fields for segmentation

Step 2: Test one valid conversion path

Run one clean test through the full stack and verify:

  • the click is logged,
  • the conversion event arrives,
  • the postback is accepted,
  • the same record is visible in reconciliation output.

Step 3: Test one failure path

Run at least one malformed or incomplete payload and confirm:

  • it is rejected predictably,
  • a machine-readable reason code is logged,
  • no payout-side acceptance is created by accident.

Step 4: Test duplicate protection

Replay the same callback and confirm:

  • only one valid acceptance survives,
  • duplicate handling is logged,
  • retry logic does not create false revenue.

Step 5: Test latency and recovery

Simulate delayed delivery or queue lag and verify:

  • accepted events remain traceable,
  • delayed events do not silently disappear,
  • ops teams can tell the difference between late and lost.

Run this QA pass again after any schema change, endpoint change, retry-policy change, or new partner launch. Postback quality is not a one-time signoff; it is a release control that protects payout trust when traffic conditions change.

Example

A team validates a new offer launch with one clean conversion, one duplicate replay, and one malformed payload. The clean event is accepted, the duplicate is suppressed with a reason code, and the malformed callback is rejected without creating a payout-side artifact. That is a workable baseline for launch.

If the duplicate creates two accepted records or the malformed payload produces a generic error with no reason code, the rollout is not ready.
